Lip Lift in Manchester and Cheshire

With the lip lift Manchester & Cheshire patients receive local anaesthetic for this minor surgical procedure. The surgeon will inject the area to make it numb before the procedure. We then excise the skin from just beneath the nose. The plastic surgeon will then suture the skin together with stitches. There will be a scar just under the nose.

What does the lip lift do?

At CLNQ in Cheshire & Manchester lip lifts are procedures to give a natural looking change to the upper lip. The photograph shows that some people naturally or with ageing have an elongated upper lip. This is the distance from the base of the nose to the border of the lip, also known as the vermillion border. The area in the central upper lip is called the philtrum. A lip lift shortens this length of the lip and raises the lip position. The other subtle changes include eversion of the upper lip revealing more mucosa or pink of the lip. Some may also notice that the procedure reveals more of the teeth. These changes give a more youthful appearance to the lips and perioral region.

What are the risks of lip lift surgery?

Lip lift surgery is performed under local anaesthetic. The procedure involves shortening the upper lip length by removing some skin and suturing this area. The potential risks with the procedure include:

Bruising, Swelling, Bleeding

It is normal to get some swelling after any treatment and this usually takes a few days to settle. Some patients may also experience bruising or bleeding which is can be related to medication being taken. Some medicines such as aspirin and herbal supplements can increase your risk of bleeding and bruising.

All patients have some degree of asymmetry and it is natural for there to be some minor asymmetry. The surgeon will be careful to try and minimise asymmetries with appropriate preoperative planning and markings.

Recurrent ptosis or lengthening of the lip can occur with time. The ageing process continues and the resultant skin laxity can make the lip drop again. It may be possible for the procedure to be repeated in the future.

Any surgical procedure will result in scarring. The scar is permanent but in most people it will improve and fade with time. In some patients, hypertrophic or keloid scarring may occur resulting in raised, red and lumpy scars. This may require further treatment such as silicone gels or steroid injections.

Infections are uncommon following these procedures although they may occur. Usually these would improve with use of oral antibiotics.

Any surgical procedure can result in change in sensation to the skin in the surrounding area. This is due to some of the sensory nerve being cut during the procedure. This change in sensation may be permanent or temporary.

Lip Lift Frequently Asked Questions

What is a lip lift?

A lip lift is a local anaesthetic procedure to remove some skin from directly beneath the nose to shorten the upper lip length resulting a more youthful appearance to the lip.

When can I go back to work after a lip lift?

The procedure is performed as an outpatient day case operation so you come to the clinic and leave following it. You will have some stitches in the wound and so these will be visible until they are removed at a week. Some people are happy to return to work immediately whilst some may prefer a week off until the sutures are removed.

How long does lip lift surgery take?

The procedure is usually about 60 minutes and performed with you awake under a local anaesthetic.

Am I suitable for a lip lift?

The lip lift is best suited for patients with an elongated upper lip. This may be present in some younger patients or more commonly seen with ageing.

How much is a lip lift?

The price for a lip lift starts from £3500 when performed in our clinic under local anaesthetic.

What is the alternative?

Some patients may use fillers to restore volume to the upper lip. This may, however, make the lips appear very full and over done in appearance. The lip lift addresses things that are not normally improved by using fillers. Lip fillers may be a useful combination treatment with this procedure.
